The Dutch world 1,500m and 10,000m champion moved ahead once more in the final minute and successfully maintained the lead until the hour elapsed to reach 18,930 meters, smashing the previous mark of 18,517 meters set by Ethiopia's Dire Tune in 2008.

"I have been [wanting to leave] all year. I thought the team needed younger players and I thought my epoch at Barcelona had ended. It was a complicated year. I suffered a lot in training, in games and in the dressing room. Everything was very difficult and there came a moment when I decided to look for new objectives."

"You can feel it in your body when you have a good throw, mostly you feel the whole energy behind it, from the right toe to the chest to the hands. In the javelin you need your whole body. But it's really hard to explain - you feel it for less than one second. But then you realize that it was a huge throw," he explained.
"Living and training here every day, shut out from the outside world, the athletes were in low spirits. There was also a potential crisis because it was hard for them to fully mobilize themselves, so their training efficiency and their self-discipline were affected," he said, adding that public attention might help top athletes keep their motivation up.
The 2017 world champion's previous best was 94.44m set three years ago, and he was confident that he still had room to improve.
"Honestly, it's unbelievable, I'm not sure I'm realising what's happening right now. It was such a crazy race and we capitalized on the red flag. To get my first win in Formula 1, I am struggling for words," said a disbelieving Gasly after the race.
In the men's One Hour event, Britain's and Olympic champion Mo Farah held off the challenge of his training partner, home athlete Bashir Abdi, to set a new mark of 21,330m - eclipsing the 2007 mark of 21,285m set by Haile Gebrselassie. Abdi finished eight meters behind. Enditem
Another interesting returnee is Martin Odegaard, who is back at the club after an excellent loan spell with Real Sociedad, and it will be interesting to see if the youngster finally gets the chance to impress in an attacking midfield role where there is much competition.
